At the current time it is difficult for therapists to obtain full professional and public indemnity insurance whilst working in Spain. However, the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy will accept insurance provided by The psychologists Protection Society. Also I have now been in touch with Balens Ltd a company that have developed a scheme for Spain and their policy is available both in English and Spanish. I have looked at their policy and it is very comprehensive. The information they have given me is below:



We developed a scheme for Spain a year or so ago. Our Spanish malpractice policy is a very comprehensive wording and is available in English and Spanish and is designed for all kinds of therapists adapted to comply with Spanish Law and the needs of therapists in Spain. We include a year’s retroactive cover to pick up at least one uninsured year before coming on with us and a similar wording to UK so it includes Professional Indemnity as well as Medical Malpractice, liabilities including Products where needed, sexual allegations of impropriety and so on. Extensions to work in UK and elsewhere are available. We have both Spanish and English advisors. We can also offer premises and contents insurances locally to offer more of a service at good premiums. Our proposal form can be downloaded from our website.
